Smart Forvision Concept Car

This futuristic concept car named Forvision by Smart was created in collaboration with chemical maker BASF. Lightweight materials extensively used throughout the concept car allowed to make it lighter. The car is made up of plastic and carbon fiber body parts. The Smart Forvision also sports plastic wheels rather than metal hoops, which have three kilograms at each corner. It has a transparent solar-panel roof which generates power to keep cooling fans running even when stationary, see-through dashboard and clear OLEDs for internal lighting at night. These hexagonal transparent areas not only let in extra light to the Forvision’s cabin but also capture the sun’s energy to power the car’s interior lighting and climate system. Aluminum fiber paints insulate the car but allow for GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth signals to pass through unimpeded.

Pictures with New Alfa Romeo 4C

Alfa Romeo will show this updated 4C sports car concept at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show next month. The blood-red 4C concept stole the Geneva motor show earlier in the year with its mini-me 8C Competizione styling and mid-engine/rear-drive layout. Six months later this ‘Fluid Metal’ coloured car should renew interest in Alfa’s Porsche Cayman rival.

The tech spec hasn’t changed, so it’s still a taut, lightweight little car. At four metres nose-to-tail it’s the same length as Alfa Romeo’s Mito supermini, and around 35cm shorter than the Cayman its crosshairs are set on. At 850kg, it’s also around 500kg lighter. That welterweight figure is achieved by carbon and aluminium construction, including a carbonfibre tub from Dallara, who develops the same technology for the KTM X-Bow.

A 200bhp-plus (bet on around 250bhp) 1750cc turbocharged petrol engine is mounted behind the driver and passenger (it’s a strict two seater) and powers the rear wheels via a TCT twin-clutch automatic gearbox, which also filters down to the Mito and Giulietta hatchbacks at Frankfurt. Another similarity to those cars is Alfa’s DNA system, which applies Dynamic, Normal and All-Weather modes to the throttle response and suspension. If the 4C’s system is anything like its more bread-and-butter brethren, though, you’ll be flicking it into ‘D’ every time you drive…

Pictures with 2012 Volkswagen Beetle

After months of secrecy, Volkswagen unveils the latest update of their famous Beetle. Inspired by the lines of the original, the 2012 edition of the automobile goes on to boast longer and wider design aesthetics, in addition to four seats with a reclining back to accommodate additional storage. As of now, European buyers will have the choice of four engines ranging from an efficient 1.2-liter gasoline engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged model and a 1.6-liter turbo diesel version. Official options for the U.S. have yet to be confirmed.

While the 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine delivers around 105 horsepower and 65.7 mpg (EU scale) as a result of an intelligent battery regeneration system, the captivative 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine goes on to utilize around 200 horsepower.

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle makes its public debut this week at the Shanghai Motor Show and the New York Auto Show.

Lamborghini’s fifth generation V12 supercar made its official debut in Geneva, and while we’ve already detailed every aspect of the Aventador LP700-4 in our in-depth article we published yesterday, today we finally had the opportunity to get some first person impressions of the latest Raging Bull.

Lamborghini had three Aventadors on display, ranging from the bright orange example we first saw in the studio photos to a more subtle grey and a stunning matte white. The white, in particular, shows off the various styling elements of the exterior, especially the muscular creases on the front and sides. Despite having more complex lines, the Aventador still manages to have a cleaner look than some of the later generation Murcielagos. We snagged a few minutes inside, and the quality of materials is proof that Lamborghini is continuing to benefit the Volkswagen Group’s influence.

You can see our live photos of the Aventador LP700-4 in the gallery below, and be sure to see our in-depth coverage of the car in case you missed it the first time around.

Mansory Porsche Panamera Pictures

Controversial tuning firm Mansory has revealed its latest garish creation, the Mansory Porsche Panamera Turbo.
The Swiss firm has finished its Panamera in a striking bright blue colour with yellow trim inside and out.
Other exterior additions include a carbonfibre bonnet, new front and rear spoilers, wider wheel arches and a new carbonfibre diffuser.

The full leather interior also comes in blue and yellow and can be specced with either wood or carbonfibre trim. Aluminium pedals also feature.
Mansory hasn’t just changed the Panamera’s styling, however. Power has been increased to 681bhp, up from the standard car’s 493bhp. Torque has also been increased to 590lb ft.

These increases have been achieved by remapping the ECU, adding larger turbochargers and by fitting a new sports exhaust.
As a result, the Panamera Turbo can get from 0-62mph in 4.0ses (0.2sec faster than the standard car) and reach a top speed of 203mph (15mph faster than the standard car).
The car is available to order now, although no pricing has been revealed.
