
McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton took his second consecutive victory of the season at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. With this win, Hamilton now leads the driver’s championship by three points. His team-mate and reigning champion Jenson Button finished second and holds the same spot in the championship standiings as well. This was the thrid one-two finish for Mclaren who now lead the constructor’s championship by twenty two points.
Hamilton started the race from pole but had to snatch the lead from Red Bull’s Sabastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso. Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi and Ferrari’s other driver Felipe Massa collided and fell behind which put Jenson Button in fourth. The situation didn’t last long as Hamilton, Alonso and Button were all forced to opt for harder rubber within seven laps. This cleared the way for Vettel followed by team-mate Mark Webber who started from seventh place on the grid to serve a gear-box change penalty.
The Mclarens along with Alonso’s Ferrari covered the time lost in pit lane while Vettal fell behind due to his softer tyres and Webber too lost ground by the time he switched to option tyres. Vettel had to settle for fourth while Webber followed in fifth. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg struggled his way up to sixth behind Webber and Renault’s Robert Kubica took seventh.
Toro Rosso’s Sabastien Buemi finished eight after he lost his spot in pits while Force India’s Vitantonio Liuzzi finally took ninth. Liuzzi expressed disappointment about the crash with Massa but acknowledged the fact that it was just an accident after all. He had hoped for a better result for the team but appreciated the points gathered. Liuzzi’s team-mate Adrian Sutil too suffered a collision. Sutil said had a hard race as he collided with Kubica in lap one and lost time in the pits as his car suffered a puncture. After that he struggled his way up to fill in the last point earning spot in tenth. Team Boss vIjay Mallya appreciated his team’s performance and is positive about the drivers and the car.
HRT driver Karun Chandhok finished the race in eighteenth ahead of the Virgin cars of Timo Glock and Lucas Di Grassi after battling them both through out the race while his team-mate Bruno Senna had an early retirement from the race due to a gear box problem.
